In one of my classes this week I was asked to draft my personal manifesto. What am I passionate about? What do I feel strongly about? What do I want to change or bring attention to? I sat and thought about this for quite some time and eventually came to this. It is rough, it is just a draft, it will change and morph as I learn and grow but this is where I begin.

"Everyone on this earth wakes up in the morning and gets dressed. This is a fact of life. What we choose to don each day is an expression of our character. How much we care, what we believe in, how we feel. Personal expression is what defines us, is what makes us individual, what makes us real. Fashion is your inner self, revealed.

Fashion is regional, cultural, and personal. It is both private and public. It is confining and liberating. It creates and breaks boundaries. It can send a message, promote a cause, and raise awareness.

Throughout my life fashion has defined me in ways both good and bad. For years it created boundaries, drew lines, and kept me trapped. For years it defined all I stood for, and defined everything I wanted to be free of. Fashion trapped me. It was not until I embraced fashion that it allowed me to understand its ability to liberate people.

People believe that fashion draws lines in a negative way, by class, race, or social status. That may be the case for some, however it extends deeper than that. Fashion defines cultures, carries traditions, and boasts meaning. It has the ability to track history and power, to track cultures and heritage. Fashion is an ever-changing constant in the history of the world. This will forever continue for the rest of time.

Get inspired, define yourself, take chances, be you."

How Young is Too Young?

I understand the whole toddlers&tiaras craze and the infatuation with youth and having that youthful image but where do we draw the line? I am not sure wether or not we can call this the next big thing...This 10 year old super model was featured in the most recent french Vogue. I have to say she looks stunning in these photographs but where do we draw the line?

I must say she looks fabulous, I would have loved to be this fashionable at 10. I can only imagine where she goes from here!

Another Day...Melting

Well the sweltering heat in the city is more than overwhelming. Everyone here appears to be melting. In my building yesterday due to a power emergency, they turned off the AC and only ran one elevator for a period of time. I can tell you, in this heat, with no AC, I was not about to walk up 14 flights of stairs. Maybe next time.

I can't even begin to explain. Incredible heat is not uncommon around here in the summer, but usually I have been fortunate enough to have water close by. I guess thats a perk of having a family home on a lake. But I am not about to hop on a bus for 4 hours in this heat to only escape for the day. I guess you will have to find me elsewhere this weekend! Perhaps the Gansevoort again this Sunday? Maybe the Standard Saturday? See you there! xx Cheers!

Street Fair

Nothing is better on a Saturday afternoon than a nice street fair. Just outside Union Square people showcased a wide variety of crafts, from bags and leather goods to clothing and jewelry the collections were amazing. One of my favorite tables was this magnet table, not for its content, but for its vibrant and stunning colors. Just amazing.

"For Resort 2012, designer Gilles Mendel has created a collection that is infused with ease, elegance and understated luxury. Inspired by a trip to the Southwest, Mendel focused on the texture, beauty and drama of the desert and the canyons and translated these qualities into new ways of manipulating fabric. Delicate trims were added to cool, slouchy separates and layers of hand-frayed organza to long, sineous gowns. "I wanted to take the raw elements of nature and present them in a very cool couture-like way," says Mendel. "The ripple of the fabric like the raw edges of the canyon, the colors taken from the setting sun - everything is organic but still fresh and made for the chic urban customer."

The daywear has an American sensibility: dresses are cut in the form of a flattering short shift or drop below the knee for a more relaxed feel. A sporty color-blocked top in light wool crepe is paired with a floor-grazing silk crepe skirt for a new take on casual elegance.
Supple silk crepe and gauzy wool fabrics are paired with lacquered lattice tweed and sporty cotton/viscose. Leather is used as a luxe trim on paired-down separates and dresses.

The furs for resort are playful and sophisticated. They compliment the evening wear in shades of fuchsia, blush and charcoal. Alternatively the day-to-evening pieces, such as multi-color fusion fox mounted on tulle, are intended as lightweight holiday options."

Although the snow is coming down in larger quantities than usual this winter, this is no reason to lose your sense of style. Disclaimer: Although this is my personal opinion, I have heard more than enough from the people around me to know what I am talking about on the matter.

GUYS- AMAZING job this year. I can't even begin to explain the level of creativity I saw both Friday and Saturday night. From the Hamburger Helper hand and giant Penguins to Trolls, Mario and Luigi, the effort was clearly evident. Although several of these have been seen before, kudos to coming up with some great costumes and going all out.

GIRLS NO ONE WANTS TO SEE SLUTTY STORE BOUGHT HALLOWEEN COSTUMES ANYMORE. To be completely honest, they are boring and repetitive. I know Halloween is that one holiday where you can "dress slutty and get away with it" but honestly, unless your intention is to give off that image there is no point in dressing like a slut. Lets be realistic, all girls look at other girls they don't know and develop opinions about them right off the bat. I am not saying all girls are judgmental bitches but we are opinionated. How many different people over the years have you seen dressed as a slutty cop? a slutty "gangster"? a slutty sailor? I mean come on girls, GET ORIGINAL. There is one exception though, homemade costumes, IF you are creative enough to craft your own sailor costume, then wear it, show it off, thats awesome. But year after year the same slutty costumes come out of their boxes and they are always the same. You honestly don't look good, you look like a slut. How's that for honesty?

Warm Fall Weather

Although all this warm weather may be deceiving, as of September 22, it is fall ladies and gentlemen. This means it’s time to pack up those pastels and white pants, and tuck the sundresses away until next spring. I know it’s hard checking the weather, and realizing the forecast is 93 degrees and sunny at the end of September, but that does not mean it’s still summer. So what do you wear on these hot fall days? For guys, you cannot go wrong with a nice pair of khaki shorts or even a dark grey or blue chino. Pair it with a lightweight button down or even a solid T. This creates a great, comfortable look for these hot fall days. As far as shoes are concerned, a nice pair of leather flip-flops or dark boat shoes should do the trick.

Girls, though this may seem like a more difficult task, it is really quite simple. Pair a cute pair of shorts (jean or a nice fall color) with a layered tank or lightweight top and a stylish cardigan for the chilly mornings, and you should be all set. There is a wider variety of shoes to choose from this season as well; from leather flip-flops to boat shoes, dark flats or some cute, short boots, these should work perfectly during these last warm days. Enjoy the weather while it lasts, but remember, it’s time for fall fashion!

No extra thought necessary, no need to try to mix and match tops and bottoms, colors and patterns. Simply slip into a romper and you are good to go! They are the perfect summer outfit good for any occasion. They can be dressed up with a nice pair of heels and some statement jewelry, or they can be toned down and casual with some gladiator sandals and some big summer sunglasses. However you want to wear them you will be more than ready for some "high-spirited, carefree, and boisterous play" all summer long! Vajazzling?

I am not quite sure how to react to this new 'trend' but vajazzling, made popular by Jennifer Love Hewitt, is actually what it sounds like. Remember bedazzling, that crazy fad where rhinestones and studs are added to an assortment of items from bags to clothing? That seems to be what we are seeing here. Vajazzling is bedazzling for your...lady parts. As odd as this sounds it has been a popular topic for discussion over the last few months. Being offered at Completely Bare a luxury spa with four locations in New York this trend seems to be catching on. The process is simple, it begins with waxing and then Swarovski crystals are applied either from a sheet or individually. I can't say I understand this trend yet, but it is out there, and people love it. Apparently this is is quite a hit with the guys... so all you guys out there, enlighten me, what is it about this you like so much?

Burberry Prorsum takes the runway showing the 2010 Menswear. Bringing out a wide range of colors from deep winter tones to light pastels there seems to be a coat or jacket for every occasion. Along with their attire they launched a set of men's handbags that fit perfectly with any outfit.

The highly anticipated fashion show of the year had people all over glued to their televison sets at 10/9c Tuesday night as this years Victoria's Secret Fashion show was underway. As their national search for the newest angel came to an end during the show, Kylie made her national debut as she walked that runway for the first time last night. Marisa Miller started the show off right, blowing away the spectators wearing the new Fantasy Bra. Worth roughly $3M this bra is adorned with 2,300 diamonds, bringing it to over 150 carats, and complete with a 16 carat heart shaped diamond pendant. Although this bra is not available for purchase it definitely started the show off right. The Black Eyed Peas swept the stage with their awesome performance, to be honest I would have loved to see Fergie strut her stuff down that runway last night.

When Chanel released its seasonal Le Vernis Jade 407 nail polish along with its Jade Rose in October critics were skeptical. It made its first debut on the tips of fingers in the fall/winter 2010 runway show. This is not a common color when it comes to polish but to everyone's surprise this color was off the shelves and into the hands of women all over the world faster than expected. With the polish already sold out the only place it can be found is on e-bay. This 25$ polish is going for as much as 165$ per bottle! That is a high price to pay for a seasonal color that may very well be out of style in a few months. There are plenty of imitators out there, but trust me, it is no Chanel Jade.

TWLOHA is a non-profit organization whose primary goal is to spread hope. It is a support system towards finding help for people from all walks of life who suffer from depression, addiction, self-injury and suidice. They hope to spread awareness with the intent of encouraging people to seek help.

There is support everywhere, people just need to be aware.

Vampires: What’s the deal.

Vampires used to be scary. A figment of the imagination, a mythological creature with pale skin, dark eyes and black clothing that ran around on full moons (or is that a werewolf?) and stalked human beings to suck the blood from our necks and leave us for dead. With blood dripping form their mouths (note: they should bring lobster bibs) they’d hide in our closets and under our beds, in cemeteries and under rocks, they were the creepy guys next door, the Boo Radleys of Eastern Europe.

But now… they’re hot! And thank God! The creepy look of Dracula with his funky Eastern European accent has been replaced with the bulging man muscles and striking eyes of Edward in Twilight. Mmmmm! Edward! Wrap him up I’ll take him to go- oh and I’ll take Jacob on the side! And True Blood’s Bill Compton: oh baby oh baby! I only wish Hugh Jackman would step up to the plate and bite my neck- it’s like donating blood only better, wait do you still get cookies after a vampire bite? Doubtful but a cookie, really? Like Edward sucking on your neck isn’t good enough? If you get bit by a vampire, write me a letter and I’ll send you a cookie- HELL I’ll send you a box of Girl Scout cookies, because you are a champ.

What is this obsession with Vampires about? At first I thought it was just that creepy girl down the hall who liked them, turns out everyone likes them (even boys). Granted there haven’t been many girl vampires recently, or at all, but Victoria from Twilight could turn some heads: that long blonde hair, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and she’s BAD! (grrr)

Overalls! Every girl remembers bouncing around her yard in a pair of beat up overalls. Not every girl was like me, but for years I loved bopping around the yard chasing my father while he did his yard work. It is not to say I was a tomboy but I loved my overalls. My babysitter did as well. I always tried to wear them like her, and now- overalls have rocked the runway! Ralph Lauren is taking the runway by storm, trading in the jumpsuit for your old handy overalls. Not your typical fashion craze, but anything goes these days. When practicality meets durability and style, what could be better than that? There are no limits to how overalls are to be worn, what they are to be made out of or what they should be worn for, but the concept is the same. Dress it up, dress it down, wear it out in the woods, or out on the town, this is a new craze that will rock the fashion world!

Crazy the people you see on a daily basis at the Philly Zoo. What a place. A hot summer day in August. I roamed the zoo with my mother, feeling like a child all over again. From monkeys to snakes, giraffes to zebras, I ran from exhibit to exhibit with dip-n-dots in my hand. What a day.

Spending the summer hopping from place to place I found myself observing fashion in every facet of life. In Massachusetts I worked on a few major movies and saw the behind the scenes action of Hollywood East. It is about more than flash bulbs and glamor shots. The inner workings are such a complex production, from catering to security to locations to the teamsters, every person has their role and the end production is a Major Hollywood Motion Picture. Although I was fascinated by the plethora of trailers decorated to Hair&&Makeup as well as Wardrobe, I was not surprised. Set wardrobe was organized by actor and actress on rolling racks that were then loaded onto trucks and driven off to set for quick and easy changes. Pretty cool :P
